The Beauty of Hedges and ShrubsThere is nothing better than hedges and shrubs to complete a well manicured lawn. Some favorites are vines, bushes, or one of the many colorful, flowering shrubs available to complete your beautiful landscape. They are a great addition to any lawn but caring for them although not difficult is often the last thing many people think about. The proper care of these wonderful plants that add character to your lawn is essential. First, let’s talk about the proper trimming and pruning techniques used by Matt’s Lawn Care. Vines and branches should always be cut at a forty five degree angle. This is because a straight cut does not allow the plant to continue to absorb sunlight and moisture. Trimming at a forty five degree angle let’s the part of the plant being pruned continue to absorb what is needed. This is so the plant as a whole is able to continue to absorb the nutrients it needs. It allows me to properly manicure without killing the entire branch or even worse the entire plant. Secondly, and equally as important is protection from plant diseases and pests. There is nothing worse, when it comes to shrubbery, than a plant that looks like it has been the main course for a bug buffet. Except for a once beautiful leafy hedge or shrub that is discolored or has speckled spots all over because it has been ravaged by disease. An organic substance that I make consisting of skim milk and water is great at protecting many plants from disease. (And if the water hose is being otherwise occupied you can drink it but make sure you leave enough for the plants!) We spray it on your hedges or shrubs in the morning so that it doesn’t dry to fast in this crazy Texas heat. It creates a film on the leaves which once it dries keeps them from being invaded by those nasty plant fungi. We reapply as necessary especially after a heavy rain. So, when you want a lawn care company that pays attention to every aspect of your landscape. If you want absolutely, positively the best lawn possible, give us a call at 972-369-3739.
